Cuando nos pidieron cubrir el bautizo de Aranza no hizo falta junta de planeación. Solo: "ahí estamos a las diez, sin equipo grande, por favor".The Sotomayors are a family we'd worked with twice before — the eldest brother's wedding in 2022 and a third birthday in 2024. When they asked us to cover Aranza's baptism, there was no planning meeting. Just: "we'll be there at ten, small crew, please."

Capilla del Sagrario has a rose window facing east that pours in at 11:30 — fifteen minutes of slanted light hitting the baptismal font. We waited for that exact moment for the lead frame.
Después del bautizo cruzamos a la casa familiar a desayunar chilaquiles. Ahí salieron las fotos más simples: ella dormida en brazos de su madrina, la familia partiendo pan, el vestido extendido sobre el respaldo de una silla. Entregamos 248 imágenes editadas en tres semanas.After the baptism we walked to the family home for chilaquiles. The simplest photos came out of that — her asleep in her godmother's arms, the family breaking bread, the gown stretched across the back of a chair. We delivered 248 final images in three weeks.
